I am new at fabricating my own equipment so I am looking for a cheaper Guinea Pig to make a sump. I need a 25-30 gallon container that I can drill through. I looked into using a rubbermaid container but it looked too thin.

Any thoughts or ideas.

Thanks,

Jeff

Buy a glass tank and drill it.

Quite a few have had success getting the diamond "Hong Kong" hole saws off ebay for around $10-12. I'm thinking about it my self. I have a 20 gallon mini reef that I would like to drill for overflow.

Get an old tank off of freecycle.org, ebay or just buy a new one. Sometimes my LFS sells old glass tanks for cheap. Perfect for a sump.

Is 30 gal the absolute max size? Trashcans can be found in the sub 40 gal size. The only other thing i can think of , if you have the space, are rubbermaid stocktanks but they cost more than 2x what a brand new 29g would run.

Jeff, I gotta 29 laying around that I wanna get rid of. I'm not to far from Cleveland, and I need an excuse to visit my G-momma who lives there on the west side. Drop me a pm if interested.

Lowes has one that's 30gal. size. It's black with a yellow top and sells for about 18 bucks. Very strong storage bin.
