I'd like to keep a pair of Bluejaw Triggers. My LFS has three in stock.

One is labeled as a male .. it has the characteristic blue jaw, and yellow-fringed dorsal, anal, and tail fins.

One is labeled as a female, and it fits the generally accepted description of being entirely blue-gray with no signs of yellow or blue.

The other is labeled as a female, but it has the yellow fringed dorsal, anal, and tail fins but it does not have the blue jaw. Would this indeed be a female? Or is it a young male? Or ... any opinions?

All three are the same size ... about 3" long.

Yes, go for the prettier female with the yellow fringes. They do have both patterns. See www.fishbase.org

females can have faint yellow. If it is bright or very noticeable, it is probably a sub male. In this case there shouldn't be to much fighting either way. One will revert to a female.

i love bluethroats :)
