I have 3X400W Radium 20K mogules about 8 - 10" off the water. I run Reef Optix pendants that have an option for a glass lens. Is there any value to the lens other than explosion guarding the system? Anyone see a need for me to install these?
My question is mostly to put my mind at ease about not using them and to be certain that I am not overlooking something simple that could impact the health of my Acros.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Single ended bulbs don't need shields (as far as i know) whereas double ended bulbs do. Otherwise its for protection if the outer glass breaks.
I know a guy who shields his single ends and the UV filtering effect changes the colors of his corals (some, not all and not for the better).
