I will be upgrading to a 90 in the near future, i am on the fence of buying the Aquatinic unit wich is a stand alone unit, or getting a retrofit and putting it inside of a canopy. If you have any full tank shots of a 90 or similar size, i would like to see some without a canopy and a T5 fixture, and with a canopy with T5's

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

in a week or so I'll have some of a 75, but I'm in the process of building the canopy. I got the parts to retrofit and spent a lot less $. Plus, I needed to have a somewhat closed top to keep hands out of it.

i would like to see how that looks in a canopy, what set did you get? did you order from reefgeek?

NewSchool, that looks sharp, thats why i like the TekLights, they are ultra sleek.

Does anyone have a pick of the Aquatinic unit?

Well, I can post some pics of what I think it's going to look like. I did get my equipment from reefgeek. I'm very pleased with their service. I can send you a list of items if you wish. Here are some pics:

Here is a friend's tank that has the t5's in the canopy

yeah, that would be cool. Well you have a shield over the lights? what about fans in the canopy. I am scared of retrofits, i dont want to set my tank on fire, if i dont do it right.

yeah, I'll put some 4" fans in the sides of the canopy to blow in and out the back. nope, no shield. It would just diminish the light. now, I'm fairly new to this lighting myself, but as I understand it, the reason those ready made lights have shields is because they have to be encased becauset they are not using waterproof endcaps.

Here is a list of the things I ordered for the 75g: 4' long:
reflectors x4 @ $21 ea
bulbs ATI 54W 4@ $20-22 ea
workhorse 7 ballast (will run 4 bulbs) $36
waterproof endcaps x4 @$10ea
power cord $5

I still need the fans and some wire. I just haven't gotten that far yet.

I know some purchased light systems dont have waterproof encaps for the plugs because they have an acrylic panel that keeps splash water out. I would be more afraid of some salt getting in to that stuff and catching fire before a retro with waterproof encaps. Fans would be nice.

A mix of two T5's, one overdriven T8 and one VHO T12: :)

In the canopy:

Front to Back (Left to right in picture)
4 ft. T5 ATI Blue Plus---------\
On Icecap Dynamic Ballast
4 ft. T5 UVL Super Actinic----/

4 ft. T8 6500 K GE Bulb from Home Depot--\
On Icecap IC660
3 ft. T12 VHO UVL Super Actinic---------------/

The T5 bulbs and the T8 bulb each have their own Icecap individual reflector. I had to modify the bulb clips to fit the T8, but it works GREAT. Of coarse the T8 is being way overdriven by the IC660 to VHO levels or more. I have room for two more bulbs, but not sure if I'll add them. I'll let the corals get used to this first.
