Blueface Angel...$230.00
I sold my 90 gallon to pay for it:lol:
That somehow doesn't seem like a fair trade:confused:

I spent $70 for my Black Oscellaris clown. Seen them for less, but I've had trouble with mail order and figured it was worth the extra $$ to be able to get it locally and to choose one from a group.

I know that seems insignificant to some, but I'm just starting and my tank is to small for some of the truly exotic fish :(

Watch for local reefers shutting down tanks, getting out of the hobby.
I paid $50 for a chevron tang, $50 for an achilles tang, $50 for a purple tang.
$50 must be my lucky number.

tie between $150 for a helfrichi firefish and commerson's frogfish...except I was working at the LFS I bought them from and thus didn't actually pay that much for them.

i dont think i've payed retail for a fish in a long long time. lol

the most expensive "retail" fish i have bought were probably my rhomboid pair, flame wrasse harem, and lineatus pair. all of which go for a good 300-600 retail. :)

Often the people who buy the really expensive fish are hesitant to talk about it because it turns into an argument about how they could waste that much money on a fish when there are so many better things to spend it on.

I know people who have paid around $3000 for Rhinopius.

In the freshwater world, the blue/gold arrowanas, if you include the bribery charges to get them out of their home country, could cost well over $100k at least this was the case about 10 years ago.

Just bought a pair of Red Sea swallowtail angels (Genicanthus caudovittatus). $250 for the pair but I traded in a bunch of frags to knock it down to $100 that I shelled out in cash. I think that's my limit, haven't admitted to hubby how much I spent! LOL!

I trade in larger fish as they grow for smaller nicer fish. The black tang that I got was maybe $350ish (I never really asked, just dropped off a couple buckets of fish and picked it up).

I passed on a polleni grouper and probably shouldn't have.

I bought a medium queen angel 3 months ago for $50 US, kinda silly if you ask me...my Australian fairy wrasses don't have that kind of mark-up here in the US. I don't see why shipping to Australia from the caribbean is so much? Unless what you call a queen angel is different.

I can’t understand it either. I know the wholesalers in Australia who import them put a nice mark up on them. Then they sell them to the LFS who sells it to the customer. Fish entering Australia remain 1 week in quarantine before being released. This also increases the cost but not that much.

Sohol tangs go for $240, Purple tang $160-$200, Yellow tang $120-$140. These are all Australian dollars.

I have had the Ambon for a month or so and no, not eating frozen. I have easy access to live feeders (Ghost Shrimp which I gut load) so I don't bother trying.
