I have been working with high calcium numbers and low alk numbers. Yesterday I started adding the alk part of the two part recipe as recommended. The dkh was 5 when I started. I added four ounces into my 215 gallon system per the calculator at one ounce per hour and increased the dkh to 7. The pH increased from 7.8 to 8.0.
This morning the reading had dropped to 6 dkh on the alk. So I added an addition four ounces of the alk supplement and the alk increased from 6 to 8 dKH. The pH also increased from 7.9 to 8.2. Calcium is hovering around 540 to 560 PPM.
So my questions are:
1) Would you expect the alk to drop 1 dKH overnight?
2) Am I adding the supplement at the correct rate?
3) Should I wait for the pH to drop before I add anymore of the alk supplement?
