I can't find any information as to tell the difference from a male to femail.

I have a 18" cube that i want to introduce a pair, or can a keep 3 -4 in a shoal?

I have 5" of stand for them to make burrows in.

I would try the fish breeding forum, I know this was discussed a while back.

I had a few together. They sometimes dont get along with others IME. But I think it's possible. In an 18" cube I would only keep one or two though. I had 2 in a 46bow.

^^ I would limit it to a pair, as well. Pairing them from characteristics is rather difficult. Usually, the males have a larger overall skull, mouth (buccal cavity) for egg rearing, though this is rather unreliable. They are not as easy as O. whitehursti, whose sex can easily be determined by comparing the premaxillary processes (extended on the males).

Really? Where did you get that information? I recall seeing black spots on the fish, but from what I remember, they were too variable in number to be reliable.

I thought the black spots were regional differences
