I have a 38 G sump/refugium that I am setting up. I have 24" height available under my stand. The height of the sump is 18" and the bottom glass sits about 1" off the bottom. So how high does the water level in the skimmer area need to be for this skimmer. This skimmer is 20" high so that will leave me with about 3" to remove the cup. I was thinking of having the water level around 15" deep before choosing my skimmer, but now it seems that it needs to be less. I am right in thinking this way? Thanks for any input!!

It's supposed to be 6 - 8"

So if I make the skimmer section have water depth of 8", then that means my fuge and return section can't be any higher than 8", correct? That is alot of wasted space. Is there any ways I can keep the depth in fuge and return higher? I know I could make a stand for my skimmer, but I could only raise it 2-3".

Most people do elevate their skimmers. My sump came with a lip around the inside of that section and egg crate cut to fit to hold it up. I added several layers of egg crate to hold it (RS-100) up to 7" depth of water.

Mine also would be too high. I have it elevated about 3 inches in my 30 gallon sump. I keep it right at 7 inches. My skimmer works great. Even with a lightly stocked tank. Only 2 fish.
