I have a friend that has a recent tank set-up (72 gal). The tank has been cycled and stable. Corals and fish have been added with no problems and all in good health. Recently, the tank has taken a turn for the worse. For no apparent reason it has clouded up and carbon won't fix it. They added a Diatom filter that cleared the tank up in no time. It was turned off after 3 days and the cloudy tank returned. Some of the SPS are starting to bleach as well.
They are using a wet/dry sump and skimmer. Adding PH.Alk and Cal buffers.

Any ideas?

Thanks

What are the water parameters, and how much of what are they dosing?

ph 8.2
Nitrates 5
temp 78
phos 0
cal 350
alk 7

Dosing Seachem 3 times per week on different days, this I do know is not the problem.
There are no softies or anemones that have milked out, so we just can't figure the cloudiness out.

Keep doing the occational water change - run carbon or your diatom filter.

TEST ALL THE PARAMETERS. Never add ANYTHING unless you are testing for it and KNOW that you need it.

Are there any fish in there that burrow in the sand? At my old job in the LFS I saw some blennies and gobies that could make a 50 gallon tank into a snowglobe.
