Hey Lighting Experts!

I need to replace my aging 250 watt dual-ended halide. Currently, I have a phoenix 14000K bulb, but I was wondering what bulb currently has the best par/ppfd. I cannot say that I'm particularly unhappy with the phoenix, but I wanted some input from my fellow reefers. Note that I don't have (and probably cannot have) actinic supplementation due to space constraints, so I'd like a good looking bulb with kickbutt output. What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Look at Sanjay's reports, it depends on your ballast. Looks are subjective.

the Giesemann 13,000K Coral lamp had almost 40 ppfd more than phoenix but cct was like 9800K so its gonna be white.

what ballast are you using?

I have a magnetic ballast - the one that comes with the Ocean Light 250.

Bump to the top...I have the same ballast and am wondering the same thing Steve is. Best PAR AND color. I know what Sanjay's reports say, but I was hoping to get some folks to chime in with their personal experience.

Take a look at XM's (XMD for double ended) If I recall the Par was up there. Color is a personal preference, in my experience, corals grow better closer to the 10K mark than they do at the higher K ratings

Looking for a combination of color and growth...10K's won't accomplish both.

use the hammy 14k it will give you a good combination of color and growth.

with that said, no single bulb will give you the perfect par/color/growth .... the way to achive that is to use two bulbs in parallel. Currently the best combo for me has been the use of 250 watt 20k xm mix with 150 watt 50k iwasaki

Do you mean 5000K or 50000K
