I'm having problems getting my sandbed to stay put on my 180G (6'x2'x2'). its a SSB 2 - 3" of Aragonite Seafloor Special Grade Reef Sand which is not the sugar fine stuff.

I'm using interval 1 since that is a true alternating flow and there is no "collision" of currents. Currently pulsed @ 30/50%.

The 180G is an AGA with corner overflows. Pumps are positioned as below.

What pump positioning and/or flow settings are best for not disturbing the sandbed?

Try positioning them in the front corners aimed to the back center. You might also try tipping the pumps upward slightly by turning the magnet holder very slightly.

Front corner mounting would not work for me cosmetically. I rearranged my rock last might (not for this reason) and it seems to be better. Tipping them upwards sounds like a good idea.

Is interval 1 the way to go?

I prefer Interval 2 but if you are having issues with the sand Interval 1 is best, odds are in time you can up the flow as the sand bed compacts a bit.

I have a central overflow on my 180, and have mine on each side of the overflow faced to the corners away from each other.
Also what worked for me in the past is facing them on one side pointed to the other. It creates a down stream effect.top flow goes across and bottm flow returns. Similar to a reef. IMO
