I got a ball of cheato to establish a refugium in my sump.
It got past the barrier into the rest of my sump.
For the last 5 months I have been picking it out of my intakes.
I had to put a [shudder] large-pore sponge guard on my main intake after it bollixed up my return pump.
I just cleaned same, and can report that despite no light at all, ever, and being jammed into the sump-partition, cheato has taken to growing on and in the sponge, is flourishing, multiplying, and dark, healthy green.
I've never seen stuff like this. It's scary. There's a reason why it doesn't have roots. It doesn't need them. It thrives by traveling, getting into things where food collects and secretly noshing down on it at night.
