It's a given that the Dosing pump and Ethernet cannot be sold without the new firmware, so I am wondering when you guys are planing on releasing it?? Lets get the ball rolling!

where do you all go to get your updates?

I go into the software and select update fireware, which takes about 10mins, but there must be a better or quicker way of checking to see if there is an update.

RobbyG
11/18/2006, 09:07 PM
Huh !! 10 Minutes??
You just go to File/Internet update and the software checks to see if there are any new updates on AQ Site. takes about 20 seconds. Its only after you download the update and install it that you go into File/Update controller and let it install the new firmware.

BTW site is still down at 8pm so I guess its monday morning before new release.

im only at 1.24, how far along in updates is the unit? should i bother programing the unit or just wait?

RobbyG
11/19/2006, 12:17 PM
They have shutoff the Log On to the server. I think that they are afraid that people who have older firmware and just bought the new Ether and Doser will go online and get the July 06 (2.01) update and think they are properly updated and then plug in the units and possibly mess up their AQ system. So to be safe they disabled the Logon to the FTP server so no updates can be done, till the proper one is available.

Aquatronica inform all its Clients that during the change from the old to the new web site, the download of the PC software and controller Firmware updates have been temporarily disabled due to technical problems experienced on the server.
We apologize for the inconvenience and inform our clients that the service will be brought back into use in a few days (a bulletin will be posted once repairs have been completed).

Gilberto, that sounds a bit odd, I know your just the messenger but the timing of is "Server Breakdown" and the information they told you is just strange! Personally I am disappointed that they could not at least put a message up on their web site from last week, saying that there is a problem! It's kind of frustrating for 100's of people to be trying to get a update when they could easily just post a "Flash News" message on the AQ home page saying that the server will be down until X date. BTW the info they gave you is strange because the server is running, it's the Logon account that they have shut off.

RobbyG, the problem is due to the change of the servers. Aquatronica made the change of the servers with the new site, the only thing it seems doesn't work is the update the user have to do...... i think there is a problem with the permissions/autorizations to acess the Aquatronica net.....
Aquatronica people is working on this problem and we think to solve as soon as possible.

I'm trying to consider which controller to buy for my tanks, and reading this thread has made me most concerned. All of these technical issues should have been sorted out before the product was announced. Or is this the "norm" for controller software from all vendors?

RobbyG
11/20/2006, 09:02 PM
For many controller brands its the Norm to not get any updates or wait years in between. We Aquatronica users are a bit spoiled, we have had about 5 updates for the year, many updates have added new features. The reason everyone is so up tight about this one is because it allows us to use 2 new products that they have released, the Dosing pump and Ethernet Module. Some people already have the hardware in hand and are very eager to get the software to use it and are not happy at all with the poor vendors who sold them the hardware.

To answer your question, yes this should have been sorted out before the product was released but it would not be so frustrating if AQ just posted a date when the software will be ready.

My biggest question is whether the firmware update is actually ready?

I'm starting to get impatient, and that takes quite a bit. It is almost december now and this is a product (ethernet) that was originally scheduled for May. I realize things take longer than expected... but nearly 8 months?

I think Aquatronica should focus their efforts on one thing at a time. This would decrease lag time and increase happy customers.

reefislife
11/21/2006, 02:55 PM
Well I've got to say I think its actually a poor a show now, that and the fact that I have the usb bug in one of my plug bars and my whole system may have to go back to Italy for testing, is actually quite dissapointing to say the least.

Hi Craig,

Get my e-mails OK? If it does go back, you wont send it untill a complete new kit arrives, whatever goes back will be re-placed first.

As for the update, yep, not happy, sitting on loads of stock which I cant send out, but speaking to Italy yesterday they seem confident it will be sorted in the next couple of days...

reefislife
11/21/2006, 03:33 PM
Thanks Wavey, I misunderstood your pm then about sending my kit back, a replacement is ok, all be it with 3 plug bars a fair bit of work to do a swap.

I cant fault your customer service (and dont).

But being a techie and having a box on my desk that says Ethernet module and not being able to "play" hurts real bad.

RobbyG
11/21/2006, 05:13 PM
I have no idea how AQ got themselves into this mess, I can only imagine that some last minute bug cropped up and caused a rewrite of some major code. These things happen but it's the first time I have seen finished hardware without any software, it's always the other way around.

Kloui
11/22/2006, 03:52 AM
Oh, come on. They know how important the update is (I'm also waiting for some other important bugfixes) and just now they decide to "play" with the server. Furthermore I can't figure out where exactly the problem is - the homepage is online - so it couldn't be that difficult to bring the (I think) ftp-server online. The update can also be done without the inbuilt software update. They only need to but the files on their homepage so we can download it and install the update by hand.
It seems that they didn't finish the update and this is only a pretense.

Aquatronica is the best computer available but they really have big problems with their timetables

Well one thing i sugest...DON'T RUSH Them.....LOL
Sometimes Fixes are more buggy... I rather wait a little longer for a much stable product.. I use to work for a software company that did anychanges a customer wanted and shot them out fast, then we had angry customers when work was not getting saved... What a mess to fix. We had togo one version back and then release an entirely new update..

Welcome Klowi,

don't worry, the new software and the new firmware are ready and fully working, the only problem Aquatronica had is the server problem.

To download it and install by hand is not safe as the automatic update, this is the reason you have to wait the server works, i'm quite shure we will have to wait not so long.

Bye

RobbyG
11/22/2006, 12:30 PM
Gilberto if you say so, then it must be true, since I am fairly sure you have had an advance copy to play with. But this even makes the problem look worst, the thought that they have all the pieces and can't get a working FTP server up and running in one whole week is amazing, and considering that a few hundred people are upset, one would think they would have it fixed in 24 hours not 2 weeks. It really gives me a better appreciation for the plight of WILL at AO and also WAVEY who have to make promises to their customers based on promises from AQ. As one person stated above, they make a great controller and great software but their delivery dates are just way too long and filled with delays.

Like I said, I haven't worked out what to do with it yet...

Basically it looks like you can set 2 parameters (sensor readings) and then do up to 3 actions.

Something like if tank PH is < 8.0 and Calcium Rector PH is less then 6.3 then turn off Solenoid, turn on kalk reactor and brew a cup of tea...

Still thinking about that one.

hmmm, taking deep breaths. It seems even worse on the new version, I am going to have to re-program from scratch and get things at least working to keep the tank alive.

I have now lost 2 sockets on a plugbar... apparently they no longer exist. Italy couldn't find the problem last time it happened, so Wavey kindly replaced the plugbar.

I love new technology, and I am willing to put up with cutting edge developments. But...when everyone has waited so long for the release of the new modules and software a basic operation of backup and restore should at least work.

I'll refrain from saying any more at the moment, as I need to get my tank back to life.

From euphoria to dismay!

I updated to the new firmware, looked great and some new features that I wasn't expecting.

Then the problems started, I tried to calibrate my dosing pump and it seemed to have got confused and thought pump A was pump B etc...

No problem I'll switch off the dosing pump and restart it... still the same.

Then the web module started getting to 21% and not loading any further. Ok so it has got a little upset, no problem I will back the system up and do a reset settings on the controller and restore my settings.

Well on the restore it couldn't tell what was a plugbar and what was a sensor and was a complete mess and managed to lose 2 sockets on one plugbar which had happened before. Ok, so there was a problem with the backups, no problem I'll start from scratch.

Disconnected everything, and did a reset. The first plugbar was discovered, as was the level sensor when I plugged it in. Then I thought I would add the second plugbar(with nothing connected) to it and the controller shut down and reported a power failure when I removed the usb cable. I tried everything I could think of to recover from that point... still the same.

At this point I am giving up, everything I have tried including further resets etc has failed and I have reverted to extension leads and manual timers.

I have always given the system the benefit of the doubt and have bought heavily into it as you will see below: I have not posted on public forums when I have had problems as our UK distributor - Wavey has offered first class support (as this thread demonstrates without support from Italy). However, I have now had enough.

If a web module power supply burning out and leaving the tank without electricity till I could cut a business trip short and return home wasn't enough, god forbid it catching fire to the cabinet, tonight's fiasco certainly is.

If Italy do actually read this thread then please contact me - you have my details: If not please send me an address to return this lot to:

sorry to hear about the problems, I hope I don't have the same problems, but I am still waiting for my 2 dosing pumps and ethernet module.
