Adding sand to an established sandbed

I am thinking about adding sand to my sandbed but don't want to kill my fauna by smuthering them. The goal is to add ~2". I figure sand shifts in the ocean constant so am planning on adding thin layers (1/4"-1/2") at a time. Does anyone think this will jeopardize my fauna.

Should be fine.

I wouldnt add any more than about a desert bowl per 500 litres per fortnight though if it was mine. (dead sand)
