Question Regarding Steel Stands

I'm looking into getting a steel stand for my 600 gallon tank made out of 2"x2"x1/4" square tubing and had a few questions that I was hoping some of you guys could answer?

What is better lynex or powder coating?

How did you skin the stand, did you drill into it or did you glue the skin?

Should I put adjustable feet on my stand, like this stand:

And If I do put adjustable feet will they need re-adjustment over time? From what I was told each one of these feet will support 8,000 lbs therefore weight isn't a problem. I'm just concerned about them either failing over time or needing readjustment. I would place a 1"X1"X1/2" plate underneath them for the slabs sake.

If a stand such as that one is going on a slab, no problem. Not so good if it is on a wooden floor. But, if it is going on a slab, I say ditch the feet and use grout to support/level the stand.

Personall, I would use lots of magnets for the skin. I am actually doing that(magnets) with one of the panels on a new canopy I am building(no pics YET).

Here you go 2x2x1/4 powder coated I just shimmed the bottom very easy. when everything is done, I'm going to Home depot and getting the matching cabinets from thomasville and Velcro them to my stand. This way if I ever have to take them off I can.

Very simple design you don't need all those braces and cross beams. Thats the reason to use steel in the first place. My stand is right on my tile floor with no problems.

I went with very large industrial style bolts on the bottom of the legs and they work sweet. Simple and cheap.

My stand builder said leveling legs weren't really necessary but would do it if I insisted.

One of my stipulations were seperate compartments to keep my electronics away from water and salt creep. wooden interior walls were added prior to the Linex spray coating.

I also hate water spills on my floor so we went with a raised lip around each compartment prior to the spray coating.

I'm still a long ways away from doing the skirting, but I'd have to say forgoing doors and having removable panels held on by magnets is looking like a nice option.

Well today I put half down for the stand $600 ($1,200 total) and I should have it in about a week and a half. Then I need to get it sprayed with Lynix or Rhino liner.

Hopefully everything will go well.

I'd like to see some pictures when you guys start adding skins to your stands.

You shouldn't need adjusting legs.

I just bought gloss black metal enamel from home depot and painted it myself. Works well and was cheap. Make sure you get the stuff for steel!

I glued and screwed (ha!, that rhymed) a wood frame onto the steel. I am not having cabinet doors as usual, but the whole side will raise straight up do I can have access underneath. (it is still in progress, so no pics yet). I can post the progress so far?

The magnets idea sounds really good though.

I didn't get adjusting legs. The stand just sits on a rubber mat.

I also went with MDF board and rare earth magnets.

Each panel is easily removed for full access under the stand.
