Hey just had a quick question.

i just bought a 250w ViaAqua titanium tube heater for my 90g tank.

at first i was thinking it is metal so i couldnt put it in my reef tank that im starting.

is it safe to put in there or do i need to take it back and get something else?

any help would be great

Evan

Titanium is one of two saltwater safe metals... no problem puting it in the tank.

FWIW, titanium and Stainless Steel 316 are the only metals 100% OK for saltwater

agreed but even stainless steel will have superficial rust over time also. some say its safe others say its not heres a qoute

I would think screws would rust and kill the tank over time? Again, it's "stainless" steel. Also, rust is an oxidized iron. Iron is beneficial to marine macroalgae--I add it to my tank. I am not aware of any documented harm from the metals that make up stainless steel. Here's a couple of web sites of interest:

Titanium heaters don't have the problem that glass heaters have, glass breaks! :D Be sure to use a good controller for the heater so it doesn't over heat your tank one day.
