Can someone please tell me what this is for, and if it necessary, or there something else that does the same job?

Thanks in advance!

i use it for my clams and feather dusters. its simular to phyto. basically its for filter feeders.. clams, feather dusters, corals..ect ect... you dont have to have it but i like to use a varietty of things for my tank. i alternate dt's phyto, zooplankton, marine snow, and cyclopeeze. its not a necicity but your corals will love you for the varity.

Well, when someone had it independently tested it was 99% water. It's not particularly useful for anything, and it's certainly not necessary.

its just a watered down bottle of plankton. phytoplankton and zooplankton i believe. but for the money DTs phytoplankton is much better!! both are used to feed filterfeeding inverts. is it a must have? no, but it will help keep the corals, and other small inverts fed.

I agree not needed, I have 5 featherdusters in my mature tank and they never get feed and are doing great for over a year. I guess they filter feed what is in my tank!

i wouldnt say that :D. Marine snow is not a bad product, but its expensive for what little product you get. so yeah you kinda get screwed.
