Can anyone tell if there is an actuall algea cycle?
Just wondering if there was a certain cycle or if its all random?

I guess I am asking how long till I get that pretty purple and green algeas??

Is there something I can do to help speed up the process?

The coraline algaes come over time. Im not sure what green algaes you are refering to but as for coraline there are ways to speed it up but I would just let it takes its natural course.

Yes there is algae "phases" in general. For example when you fisrt start off, you'll normally get a bunch of brown diatom algae (rust colored...and can get VERY ugly looking sometimes if not cared for properly) and another one that seems to go thru a phase is cyano bacteria (AKA red slime algae, and there is a green version too)

Coraline...you'll get that in a few spots here and there for the first few months before it realy starts to kick in.

Just keep nitrates and phosphates (and i've even heard tds..tho i dont test for that personally) low/gone and the stuff should go away on its own. OH, and get good flow! ;)
