I have heard of people using their RO/DI systems for drinking water as well as tank water. However, what I'm not sure about is some people say they disconnect the DI filter for the drinking water. Do you really need to do this? What are the pro's and con's of doing this?

You can use it of course --- you'll just have to replace the DI more quickly. I used to use my RODI filter for drinking water primarily cuz I hated the tap and bottled water was too expensive. I sold everything though cuz I didnt feel like spending money on replacing filters and my tank wasnt too terrible w/ algae just using tap water.

you must have some pretty clean tap water - mine reads around 265 TDS from the tap:( but 0.00 after the RO/DI:)

My RO/DI unit has separate lines for RO and RO/DI. I use the RO/DI line for the tank and the RO line to fill the water jug for the water cooler. There is also a faucet on the sink for RO water.
