I've got a 40 breder (36 wide by 15 tall by 18 wide) with LPS and softies, I intend to delve into some SPS later but always a mixed reef.
Right now I have a single 150w 10k metal halide which does well for growth but it looks awful yellow and flat. 14k phoenix wasn't quite enough light.
I was thinking I'd like to add 2x39w T5's to this. Either actinic or just very blue so I'll have the shimmer of my halide and lots of color from the t5s.
Any thoughts or improvements?
Also, I like the idea of keeping the top open so I can work in the tank but I've never seen any DIY suspended lighting... just hoods... am I wrong?
