While at my LFS window shopping i seen a little piece of live rock broken off with 2 what i think are zoos attached. I put them in my refugium with a single daylight bulb 75W and a couple of days later one disappeared and i found it under the rock it came in on, is this commen? Other question is I have a problem with nitrates which im in the process of correcting do zoos take alright to nitrates until i can get them down.

You sure it is a zoo?? Maybe an anemone?? Corals do not like nitrates (fish do not either but can take a higher concentration).

i have been looking at alot of pics and im almost postive its a zoos, and my nitrates have been over 160ppm for about 6 months now but have made alot of drastic changes to try and correct it and there dropping slowly.

Some corals don't seem to do well with high nitrate levels. I haven't had a tank at 160 ppm nitrate, so I don't have any experience with your situation. Can you post a picture to help with an id?

DO you use tap water , and whene was the last water change ? Also do you know your phosphate level ? And how many fish in that 90 gal ? And do you use cheato in your fuge ?

If they moving around that fast then they are not zoanthids. Zoanthids can not move around like that.

a mushroom could maybe move. I have had one detatch and show up somewhere else unexpectedly

I've found a couple that have broken off the rock and wound up elsewhere as well.

yes too cheato, phospates havent checked in awhile, RO water and do weekly water changes of 10 gallons. 2 fish dogface puffer almost a foot and a yellow tang 6 or 7 inches, crushed coral and not having a clean up crew was the source of the nitrates ever since using a sand bed numbers are dropping
