currently I have a 70w HQI over my Aquapod. If I wanted to upgrade to 150w, could I simply just switch the bulbs? or would I have to get a whole new unit?

You would need to buy a new unit, probably a pendant, or switch the ballast and clips (really shouldn't do that unless you know a bit about wirering and eletronics).
