Folks,

I have a Red Scolyomia that came attached to a piece of live rock. It's been in my tank about 4 days now. I just noticed the oddest thing. On the side of the live rock it's attached to there is a yellowish dot. Every so often this dot blossoms into a small flower type thing with tentacles. As quick as it appears, it suddenly seems to "pop" and then become a yellowish dot again. I've seen this happen 3 times now this morning... Any idea what it could be??

It's very cool to watch....

Sounds like an aiptasia anemone or maybe a featherduster. A pic would help.

Maybe it's a real small sun polyp? Really need a pic to say for sure.

Tentacles, or feathers? It could be a tiny barnacle, if it has a feathery 'radar dish' that it pops up. A filter feeder, it would take phyto quite happily.

Thanks guys... I'll try and get a photo shortly... Looks to have tentacles... It's amazing to watch it expand, pop and then expand again... Sometimes the whole process takes about 5 seconds, other times a few minutes...
