I would like to upgrade my 35 gallon fowlr to a 72 bowfront within the next 1-2 years. My tank has only been up since sept. 1st.

Is it feasable to purchase another 65lbs (on top of existing 35lbs) of live rock, add the 65 lbs of rock to the 72 gallon (half full) with a heater\power head or two and wait a couple of weeks (to ensure it is cured). I would then add the other 35gallons and 35 pounds of LR from my tank to the 72 and drip in my livestock which will be about 3 fish at that time.

Would that not be like doing a 50% water change? Naturally I would check my params.

That would work. If I was you I would take the rock out of the current 35 gallon, put it in the 72 with the new rock... fill it up with new water and than let it cycle. Than add the fish/inverts/corals. Either way would work.

It sounds OK but I would definetly put a skimmer on the 72 gallon and do water changes at least every 3-4 days.

I would definetely do the skimmer and water changes.

Anybody have any specs on a 72-75 Gallon FOWLR?

My 75 is a fowlr right now. My tank info is under my post and click on my red house for a FTS.

Fill the 72 completely and let it run normally so all your plumbing and filtration can get coated and cycle really nicely.. Do frequent small water changes and add the rest of the rock slowly.. Once you are done adding the rest of the rock you should be all set..

Skimming is also a plus!

I have to agree with bpd, fill it up and let it run thro its cycle.
