Bulkhead Overflows?

I went to a LFS today and saw they were using 4 bulkhead w/basket overflows for a 240g tank that fed into a single larger PVC pipe, then into the sump... This type of setup looks great as it does not require internal overflow boxes that take up tank space and can be nicely hidden by a canopy. Are there any downfalls to this type of setup? Any recommendations welcome.

A setup like that won't get the surface-skimming effect of a more standard overflow. It might plug a bit easier. Other than that, it should be fine.
