Can anyone ID this crab I found in my tank, should I be worried? (I apologize for the crappy pics. it was the best I could do). In case you can't make it out I will describe it: It had bands along the legs with hairs or fuzz like a tarantula. the size--from what I could tell--was about the size of a quarter, I couldn't make out if it had one or two equal sized claws because I was only able to see one side of it. By the way this is the first time I see this guy in my tank after having it set up for 2 years. I have only bought small frags, so I don't think he came with one (unless he was really small. I checked Melev's site and didn't see anything that was a match... Anyway here are the pics-->

Imo, I would try to catch it and move it to your sump. All crabs are carnivorous and will eat what they can catch. First it might be some hermits, snails. Then small fish once it starts to grow with its appetite.
I had 3 of those guys about the same size and they didnt harm anything at first. I caught them eating snails and small fish while they slept.

Eek! How did you catch him? The fact that I have only seen him once in two years can probably give you some idea of how illusive he is--I'm guessing he probably hides in the rockwork most of the time...

I caught mine while he was at the top of my rockwork at night. Unfortunatly I had to spear him and kill him to get him out.
It took me 3 years to catch this guy.
Look into the rockwork at night with flash light with either a red lense over it, or get a plastic red cup and look thru that with the flashlight.
Crabs are most active at night as thats when they hunt.

Props!
3yrs... Wow, lol! I got to hand it to you, sounds like you are very persistent. Anybody else have any quicker methods? I tried finding him last night and was looking in my tank with a flash like for about 2 hours with not even a siting... Will interceptor kill it? Bad idea?

To have him come out, get a glass and place some meaty food like Krill, Frozen shrimp and place it in a glass. Place the glass on its corner so once the crab slides in for the food, it will slide down the glass and cant get out.
Louring him out is easy, once they smell food they go on a mission.
