Break out the flashlight tonight after the lights go off and inspect closely.

Agreed . Although I just found them again and no monti have gone in my tank for some time with the exception of a few frags 3 months ago . It has been 1.5 years since I got rid of them and they made there way back . Mine are out in daylight but they are under the edges out of the light .

Being patchy like that leads me to a yes but visual confirmation is always best .

Richard,

I had monti eating nudis before and the patterns look like that. If you like, I can come over and visit and see if I can notice the nudis. I now know what to look for. I hope you have something else other than nudis. It would be awful if you did have the nudis. They are very destructive and hard to get rid of

Yes it would be devestaing with those large caps. I have already tossed and fraged alot of my montis and have 2 that are untouched . I check those daily as they are favorites. They can be beaten with small corals but large corals like yours will be hard.

How good is TMPCC with monti nudis? I am been dipping my montis with TMPCC and I feel pretty good about it but what are experiences of others?

I lost all of my montis with my last attack.

That definitely looks like the typical pattern of monti nudis. You shouldnt have to turn the lights off to see em, they are easy to see. The little white fluffy things is your tip off. Right now i have a monti cap that has them, but it is the only monti i am keeping so i am not worried or anything. I have been trying TMPCC....not effective so far. It takes a while for TMPCC to kill them, i think my problem is finding and removing all the eggs with alll the crevices on a capricornis. Good luck, luckily montis are extremely hardy, but judging from the pics you have let them proliferate and there are likely tons in there. if you have QT set up i would make use of it

clkwrk - you say they survived in your tank a year and half without montis in it??? wow..... that sucks to know
agreed the pattern is very similar and i have found nothing that kills them with a dip lugols and salt water for 45min will slow them down then you blow them off and do it again in a week

Thanks guys for your comments. Van that would be great if you want to come over to check for them with me. I searched last night with a flashlight but could not find any signs of them or eggs. I looked at Clkwrk thread about them for a picture. Did not see anything like them in my tank. At first I thought it might have been starfish. If Clkwrk remembers I pm'ed him with some questions about a month ago.

Levamisole Hydrochloride used outside of tank (DIP) will kill the nudis. It will not kill eggs.

A Google search for soluble pig wormer will show you where you can buy it.

I have had them in my tank forever. About 4 months ago I threw out the montis that kept getting them and I thought they were gone. This week I found damage to a green digi. I took the entire rock out. Fragged and dipped the clean parts and the rock is outside.

So then levamisole would work ont he nudis but not a option due to how bad it is on the coral??? But can dip for them. At least we have something for them.

I have looked in vein to find them. I searched last night with a magnifying glass and a flashlight for an hour and I found nothing. I got up at 4 AM this morning and searched for another hour with magnifying glass and flashlight. I have not found one. I do see starfish all over like I did when I first noticed the problem with the coral. I had asked Chris about it his thought was that the star fish was just eating the decay from the coral. But right now all I have is a victim with no witnesses and no suspect.

Are they like less then dime size and whitish grey? Those arent reef safe from my reading. And when I find they they are banned to the sump. If there is no nudis I would have to think it could be the stars.

Do you see any problems on any non-Montipora in your tank?

The stars I see are small maybe the diameter of a pencil eraser. They are white with black and brownish spots. I did notice one of my A. tenius had several branches that were completely white with no tissue on them. But they were back up against the overflow so I assumed it was the lack of light that made them go sour. I was thinking of getting a shrimp to get rid of them because there are a lot. And I have seen the stars on the monti's

I have had no problems with Levamisole and caps, encrusting (including superman and rainbow, and hispida. The Digi I dipped yesterday does not look so hot today so be cautious with digis if you choose to try it.
