When I was at IMAC this past April Tullio showed an LED light fixture that was real cool. He had said that this product was going to hit the market in late summer, early fall this year. As we all know these estimates of production release are greatly subject to change. I was wondering if there is any news on these, and if we can get a sneak peek. I loved what I saw(even with the blinding LEDs), and was hoping to have one of these by Christmas.

What is a Buckeye; is it like a browneye? :lolspin:
I'm not a native Michigander. I'm from Illinois. :)
A buckeye is an American Horse Chestnut. Scary? :thumbdown
Besides football is a primative gladiatoric sport. :lolspin:
Now, can I please get a serious and professional answer to my question.:D

Did Icecap abandon this project?
Actually we're looking to start a product line from the results we got from the test fixture. We found people wanted to control each group of colored LEDs separately.

Sounds great! After reading the thread on the PFO fixture and seeing pics, I was hoping (and going to ask) if you guys were going to work on your own version of it.
With the advances in LED/OLED technology, I think flourescents (of any variety) and metal halides are going to be a thing of the past within a few years.
A very happy holiday season to all...
The LED fixtures displayed at IMAC were just demonstration units. IceCap now has the newer version which were showcased at MACNA that surpass the performance of the prevoius versions ten fold.
IceCap will have the hottest full spectrum LED systems money can buy and as demand and pricing come in line they will be released.
Until that time I advise that unless you are purchasing one of the IceCap moonlight LED systems which are still the best out there that you hold off on purchasing other systems as you will surely be disappointed.
Thank you
Tullio

Thanks for the information. But, given the current price tag for the PFO product, it will be a while before I could buy one anyway. So, since IC is planning on releasing an LED fixture then the wait (and savings time) will be worth it.

Tulio is there any chance that you could release a nano unit. The pricing will be lower, and the demand is very high for lighting that doesn't heat the water in this sector of the hobby. I'm currently working on an AGA Minibow 7 gallon, and would love this type of lighting. My lighting options are two 32watt PC bulbs or a 70 Watt DE Metal Halide. Both of which distribute great heat to the water. The same tank could be light by 3 or 4 watts of your prototype LED lighting. I know that the LED systems transfer much less heat, and would figure to get a 90% or more reduction in heating of the tank water from the lighting. People are forking out $90-300 or more for chilling systems for nanos in addition to the lighting itself.

Check out some of these light systems.

I think this is a market that you can tap immediately. Once you have cornered this market, then you can go for the larger tank market when the demand the nano market created has brought down your material pricing.

The LED systems that PFO has released run about 50 % or the wattage or a 250 Watt MH and get better light. The prototype system that I saw at IMAC ran about 10% of the wattage of that same 250 Watt MH, and still gave superior light. If you crunch the number this will pay off the fixture quickly. I could take my roughly $65 a month to light my main display down to about $7. At $58 saved a month the lighting will pay itself off in a couple of years.

True, but you have to actually HAVE the $2 or $3k before you can buy it.
