Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to do a proper water change.
The way i have been doing it is that i have turn the system completely off and i have been draining about half of the water out of my display tank. Then i fill the tank right back up with the new water and i turn the system back on. It hasnt really been a problem so far considering the age of the tank and my livestock that is present, but i now have fish and soon to have corals and i want the water changes to be done correctly.

I am currently running a spectra pure maxpure ro/di unit with seachem reef salt.

Any suggestions would be great!!!:rolleye1:

Well, you seem to be on the right track.

What i do is turn off all pumps, and powerheads. I dump 10% of the water volume out and replace with saltwater that has been well mixed and heated to the appropriate temperature. 10% is a good number to use because when you start changing large amounts of water your fish and mostly your coral will not like the shock of a large water change.

Good luck with your future residents

Stop doing 50% water changes. a 10% weekly water change is plenty.
