I noticed my green spotted puffer was sulking even more than usual. Upon closer inspection I noticed that he has a broken tooth. Now I have to be a dentist. I feel pretty bad for him. I've done my research on the proper technique. Now I just need supplies.

Where can I get clove oil? I need it to put the fish 'under'.

Have you tried GNC?

Hey, my dentist right there in Collinsville has a big SW tank in his waiting area. Maybe he'll do it for you. :D

wonder if that would be covered under insurance? lol

I doubt the insurance would cover it. The clove oil will most likely cost more than the fish.

My biggest concern is that I'll cut the poor guys face off.

I'll try to take pictures of the operation.

My puffer must have tried to eat a rock and now has a broken tooth, which is causing him problems.

Now I have to put him in some tank water with a drop of clove oil to knock him out. Then I have to pick him up, peel back his lips and trim his teeth with cuticle scissors. After I finish, he goes into some plain tank water to revive him.

Besides my concern about cutting his face off I have to worry about the right balance of clove oil in the water. Too little and he wakes up while I’m cutting, too much and he dies. I have room to play with but I don't like the two extremes.

I found this out while doing my research on trimming the puffer's teeth.

In small doses it can be used as a tranquilizer, in larger doses or longer exposure time it is used to euthanasia ill fish.

Everything you want to know about puffers (http://www.thepufferforum.com)

I don't have a video camera but if someone has one and is free tomorrow they are welcome to come over.

There's an article with Anthony Calfo doing this same thing. I'll try to find it. Way to scary for my shaky hands. Good luck.
