My orange tree sponge I just bought has developed some white tissue at its base. I "planted" the sponge into a jar of new sand and i am afraid there may have been air bubbles or something?
Heres my question: can I cut off the affected base and re plant the rest of the good sponge?
Can a sponge continue to grow without a base?
thanks!

Many sponges commonly available for sale are challenging to say the least,

My rocks are covered in sponge, but I've never bought one. They all came in on my rock, which was aqaucultured. I have white, orange, red, yellow, brown, black, etc...

Most of the free, hitchhiking sponges are very hardy. But, many of the ones that are offered for sale such as the ball and tree varieties are not.
