View Full Version : Adding more live rock

Hello again i want to add more live rock to my tank. My cousin is getting rid of his tank so i'm tanking the rock from him it's about 100 lbs can i just throw throw the rock in my tank or do i need to something else before adding.

If it is coming immediately from an established tank it should be fine. Make sure you keep it submersed during transport. I haven't had any issues with that. Any other way you would definately want to cure it seperatly.

Submerged during transport is best but as long as it is a short time span, you can wrap it in wet newspaper or something similar.

As you remove it from the old system you should swish it well to remove any detritus that may be trapped in the crevices.

I would also remove any noticeable sponge, as many sponge species will die off if exposed to just the slightest bit of air; a small portion may survive, however the bulk or mass will die back and foul your system.
It's better to be safe then sorry.
