hey guys,

the tank SG is 1.017. Is this dangerous to the tank inhabitants? I have to slowly bring this up to about 1.025ish, but until then, will the corals/clams/fish be ok?

How long has the sg been at 1017?

What are you testing with, refractometer or hydrometer? Slow is the key.

hydrometer. been like this for a day. also tested w/ pinpoint salinity monitor

What caused your salinity to drop suddenly?

Recently I had raised my kalk drip rate to very high, about 4drops per second, so I was adding about 5 gallons of freshwater to the tank each day, while not much was being evaporated, so the SG just kept coming down.
My skimmer was also pulling lots of water out (I skim very wet). So I was taking saltwater out and putting lots of freshwater.

I plan to do a 35gallon water change tomorrow, but that water has a SG of 1.035 at least. I am afraid such a big SG change may hurt the corals and fish. I may have to do this water change very slowly. What a pain.

Good news is, I bought and will install my Ca reactor today, so no more freshwater kalk dripping into the tank and lowering SG.

i would say just keep raising it slowly..
