I need some help please.......my MAG level has reached 1600. I am not sure how. I had to dose major calcium due to a calcium test I was using was incorrect reading an incorrect value.

All water perameters are good except that.

Calcium 420 Salifert
ALK 3.39 MEG-DKH 9.8 Salifert
PH 8.2 Pinpoint monitor
Mag 1600 (too high) Seachem
I have not tested the MAG level in a new batch of my mix which is Tropic Marin Pro Reef. I know its high though because since I started using it I have not dosed MAG.

I need to lower it by 250ppm.
Should I do water changes using a lower mag mix?? Then go back once its in check??
Buff My alk ( it could use it )?
Keep dosing Limewater to lower it?
Stop dosing kent turbo Calcium?

Please help me out. Thanks

I would just leave things alone.

This article says that 1400 ppm is on the high end of good. (Scroll about half way down)

You could do a water change if you like, but I believe the test kits for Mg aren't 100% accurate. Water changes won't hurt, but chasing numbers can lead us to do bad things.

Here's another article on Mg if you haven't read it yet.

I know it's hard to do, but if everything else seems ok, nothing dying, then I would just let the Mg come down on it's own.

It is most probably comming from the salt, I tested different batches of TM Pro and it was in the range of 1400 to 1600 ppm.
Adding Alkalinity, Lime water or Stopping the Turbo Calcium will not afect the Magnesium level, it shall be either consummed or replaced with water changes, in your case for water change you need to use a low Mg salt like IO. Because IO is low in calcium, increase the Calcium in the new mix water by 70 ppm before you make the water change and of course do not increase it's Mg. IO is usually good on alkalinity.

I use IO salt and my Mg stays at 1300 (salifert). Maybe I just got a good batch.

No none of them will afect Magnesium.
