Just ordered a Jr, have not received it yet. But I have a few questions about setup. Do you need the x-10 modules/equipment for MH lights or can you plug the hood/ballasts straight into the DC8 and configure operation? Read some stuff on here that made me wonder thats all - Im hoping to stay away from the x10 stuff.

If you got the DC8 you wont need x10......

Happy to hear that I wont have to use it too. I tried to use x10 modules for remote cameras on a remediation system some years back and it was a disaster - could not get it to work - no matter how much tech support the company gave me. I would have re-thought my purchase. Thanks for the info.

Are x10's really that bad? I know theres potential interference problems, what gives?

well .. what if your heater is on X10, and your chiller is as well - everything functions fine & your AC turns your heater on - then all of a sudden you develop interference ... or your already there interference gets a little louder on the line, and your heater X10 module does not receive the OFF command - and even worse .. your chiller X10 does not receive the ON command - 12 hours later ....

you have 'waverz' INSTANT "Evansdale, Ia" reef chowder .... NO GOOD!

The bottom line is do not trust X-10 communications over powerlines for ANYTHING critical to the health of your tank.

Some people will tell you they've been running X10 for years without any problems. Others will tell you they ran for years and then out of the blue had no end of troubles. There's still another group that never could get it to work cleanly out of the box...
