Hi,

I think the pump/impeller is toast on my Turboflotor, the original oceanrunner 2700 is hard to find in British Columbia. Can anybody suggest a good replacement? I've been looking at the RIO 2100.

Thanks,

Aaron

I'd avoid the Rio like the plague. I got my OR2700 from eBay, and got a pretty good deal on it. I see one on there today but it doesn't look quite as good a price. Keep an eye out over a few weeks and you'll find something.

Are there known problems with the RIO?

Thanks,

Aaron

I loved my RIO 2100 on my turboflotor. It is truly a fantastic skimmer. There was a post a while back about a Rio that melted in someone's tank and killed everyhting. I believe since then people have really started avoided Rio's. I don't know how common or frequent the problem actually is considering how many thousands of pumps they probably sell a year.

I would avoid rio. I had a couple "die" in my tanks and they just arent worth the risk. Never sure if they will start again after powerfailure, can release the oil in the motor into your tank (had that happen), and can electricute you easy.

Any suggestions on other pumps that I could use, that are easier to obtain than an ocean runner?

Can you not mail order it from Marinedepot or such and have them ship it to canada? Perhaps Bigalsonline has it?
sorry i don't know another needlewheel pump that will fit it. Check wetwebmedia. I think they mentioned putting eheim pumps on them but I could never find that model of eheim.

Don't get the Rio. You'll be punished for it!

Lets count the broken RIOs (19 page thread) (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=702770)

My 2 year old reef suffered a catastrophic meltdown due to... determined to be the Rio pump running my skimmer. (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=3918050)

Rio meltdown aftermath (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=399173)

Just a small sampling of the joys that await the Rio owner. Get the Oceanrunner: it may be big, but it works and its quiet.

Wow. Alot of damage an frustration from those pumps. My 180 crashed after being setup for 5 years, 4 of those as a 90. I still don't know what caused the crash. But I am not interested in taking the RIO risk. Will a maxijet operate my skimmer? If so; which one should I get?

Thanks,

Aaron
