Have installed the ethernet module but cannot setup the e-mail alerts as software only accepts SMTP IP address, does not recognise my SMTP server (domain) name "mail.btinternet.com", and British Telecom refuse to provide IP addresses reasoning these change. :(
AQ, could you amend the software to use SMTP server name as do others e.g. my Netgear firewall.?
Also, would be useful to be able to export sensor data - this needs only one txt file when not linked to charting.
Thanks
Mark

I just checked on some whois sites and they dont seem to have the IP either. Something is really strange about a mail server on a large corporation server that does not have a fixed IP.
Maybe you will have to use a free account service just for your Tank

OK....a tracert to mail.btinternet.com resolves to this address :
pop-smtp1-f.bt.mail.vip.ird.yahoo.com and an IP address of : 217.146.188.192
Try that and see how it goes.

If it really is not a fixed address that will only work till the IP changes. I can't imagine they change the IP, seems odd, but the mail server did not seem to have a regstered IP, so who knows.

Thanks Dave.
Aquatronica gave same address
Test e-mail reports "test e-mai lhas been sucessfully sent to addressee" but nothing received at detination address.
Now why do I suspect "Blarney & Tosh" a.k.a. BT

Check that you dont need a username and password to send outgoing mail.
I had that problem with mine....except that I didn't need it and that's what was screwing things up.

One other thing peculiar to BT, is that they only allow emails from their domain to be sent via their smtp servers to prevent spamming.
I have a business account with BT and I know that I will not be able to send e-mails from the ethernet module as I cannot prove to BT that I own the aquatronica domain. AQ should make the whole of the address editable. All e-mails from the ethernet module are sent from XXXX@aquatronica.com
You won't get any warning that the e-mails have not been sent via BT, they will just never arrive.
Drop me a pm and I will help you prove this.
Steve.

That's odd, the Beta version allowed you to specify Sender and recipient. In any case I think the BT thing sounds like too much of a pain in the rear, why not just use another mail service? Even the paid ones with full forwarding etc. don't cost much $$ anymore.

Redbull99; note what you say but my Netgear firewall using server name with user name and password works fine.
I can ping the IP address suggested so its not connectivity.
Maybe I need to try another mail provider as suggested ...

It works :D
