A simple question from someone new to keeping SPS corals: Is it possible for coral polyps to regrow?

A couple of weeks ago I posted a question about a stylophora that I thought was receeding; that is, losing its flesh. I noticed that it was losing its color, turning white, in certain places, and its polyps were not as discernable as before. Then I noticed that when I blew debris away from it with a turkey baster it looked as if a thin membrane, presumably the "flesh" was loose from the skeleton. Now, I'm trying to decide whether or not to discard the coral or leave it alone in the tank to see if it will recover.

If the coral is totally white or algae is growing on it then it has probably died. Without a pic, it is hard to say. I would leave it in the tank until you are certain. Corals have amazing recovery capabilities.

Thank you for your reply. I have seen some amazing things, too. So, for now, I will leave it alone in the tank.

As long as there's living polyps - it can grow a whole new colony.
