Well to my surprise when I came home the power to my sps tank was off. Apparently something tripped the breaker, as all the other tanks were fine. But with no power the return back siphoned and the tops of a few acros were exposed to the air for about 8 hours. Will they be alright or should I just count my losses and break off the exposed pieces.

Probably will be ok if the air temp in the room was ok. Many SPS are exposed at low tide for hours. Only way to tell for sure is to watch them closely for a few days. If coral seems to succumb to RTN, then by all means try to save anything you can..

8hrs is pretty long, I know in the wild sps gets exposed for a few hrs, but not sure about 8.

i think it will depend on temp in the room, humidity, and air flow, i say give them a chance.

well the temp was around 81-82 according to the thermostat and the house was pretty humid when I walked in, as usual when all the windows are closed. The polyps have come out a little and alot of the slime coat has been blown off by now. I guess I will just watch them closely and pray this was just a one time thing.

You can always cut problem areas tomorrow, but I'd also give them the chance.

Without the lights on [or hood cooling fans] they've got a shot. Some may do better than others ...

the ones that get exposed in the wild get exposed regularly....more adapted to the stress.......his arent likely will start to see some recession.....get read to frag if it gets bad

4 days later and everything looks good. PE is back to normal and everthing look healthy. I still have not figured out what caused the breaker to trip, but I am hoping that I does not happen again.

Yea, I had mine out of the water for 6-7 hours when I had the tank down a few months back, and the only corals I had problems with were the caps. They lost a little tissue around the edges, but came bounced back pretty quickly.

well it is usually around 80 but I had turned the air off the night before and forgot to open any windows.

I'd give them a shot. I've seen worse and the corals pulled through. As mentioned, many corals experience far worse in nature and survive just fine.
