I think there real quiet. I dont hear mine run at all. I think there one of the quitest pumps on the market. I have mine installed externally and a mag 7 runs it submerged. If your going to run the pump external look at the eheim pumps. there super quite, the mag is to loud on the exterior of the sump.

The pump is what makes them loud. Many have reported that with Eheim pumps, they are nearly silent. Besides they are the best performing submersible pumps for use on those skimmers.
Eheim 1260 for the EV120
Eheim 1262 for the EV180

EV 120 ran with mag7

these responses sound like it would be quiet in a sump, but what about as a stand alone?

stand alone, which is how mine is hooked up, but with a submersable mag pump, is very quiet. External pump, go with a eheim.

I have a EV240 submerged with mag 12. You cannot say it is running

what size eheim should i get? right now it will skim a 44g, but eventually it will be a 75G w/fuge.

I would get the ev120 or 180. Probaby the 120. i dont know the equilevents for eheims, but the mag 5 or 7 on the 120, or the mag 7 or 9 on the 180. of course there numbers are close to what they put out. 500 for the 5, 700 for the 7 etc. I wished i had orderd mine with the cleanable spray injetor. i would get it if its a option up front. You dont have to take apart the injector to clean it. These are wonderfull skimmers, good luck with your purchase. A few photos of my ev180 in action. The second one was skimming a 12 gallon nano!

i never noticed, but this accessory seems to be only for the remora, i did a DIY with a 1/4" x 20 tap and a nylon 1/4" x 20, 1/4" long nylon thumb screw. All i have to do is unthread the screw and run my micro bottle brush down there. I dont know if its ever dirty, i just do it weekly with my skimmer cleaning.

dont forget the pipe tape on the screw to prevent salt creep!
