I'm looking into some of this.

Anyone gotta clue? Are they sensitive to guys like me?

No calc reactor, just dowflake, arm and hammer, ESV mg, Kent Iodine. 10% water changes every other week, I have orange montipora caps, and digitata (as far as sps goes), that grow alright (although they aren't the brightest of colors) plenty of clams. Thinking about letting it crust a rock about 15" below a 250w, 14000k phoenix hqi. flows? Anything I should know?

Hey cla337,

I have this coral and it seems pretty hardy for me. I found that it needs to be in a shaded spot in order to maintain its bluish base. When its under direct light of a phoenix bulb--the base turns an oliveish green.

olive like army fatigue? To the point of being dull? I have a monti somewhat shading that area, I was originally going to remove, but maybe I'll let it grow. Problem is that I have a clam just beneath this spot that might get shaded too.

How about flow? Also, does it branch or crust? Cuz I've seen other types branch.

Yes, definetely dull. I don't think they branch. Mine only has encrusted to this point. I don't think flow is an issue with this coral because I have had min in both high and medium flow and didn't notice any difference.

very awesome and hardy corals. I have both Atlantis versions and all three Tyree versions. The meteor shower does not like high lighting and high flow. The Tyree blood red eye changes colors depending on location. Much deeper red on top and more of an orange mid and lower light. The other Atlantis piece tends to like high lighting and high flow. The Tyree Japonica does well under low lighting and medium flow. They all have grown really well.

So maybe I should get the other kind if the lighting is too direct to get that color contrast and brightness?

Heres mine 3" under some VHO T5's. Its kinda brownd out but its in a high nutrient system under a good deal of light. I may move it down soon and see what happens.

Was that a bright blue or teal like the one's at atlantis when you got them?

Hmmm, when people say high "nutrients", is that just a all around term for phosphates, nitrates, etc. Cuz some of my corals seem to lose a bit of contrast (ie yuma colors dont "pop", clams are great, brains great.) Yet I have the fuge, phosban rctr, chemipure, remora with mag 5. Maybe I need a better skimmer.

No, but it wasnt under 400 watt 20k halides either.

I dont skim. Just frequent water changes, but since ive upgraded from a 29 to a 75 sps im rethinkging the whole skimmerless thing.

I recently got two pieces from Atlantis (they were LPS this time.) I have 400W 20K with 330 W VHO Actinic and the coral coloration looks very different than the pics on Atlantis. They do not adjust the photo's to match how the pieces really look in the tank, at least they didn't with the ones I got.

When I take pics of my tank I always need to adjust for the 20K otherwise all my corals would look.....well....just fabulous!

Mine is 12 inches below a 400w Radium and has held color perfectly. Grows like a weed, too! So far, it has doubled in szie in 4 months.
