I finally got my sand bed in and it only took 6 hours to see in the tank again. It's still slightly cloudy.

lol looks great I hate that is it ever gonna clear when you put sand in feeling. When setup my first reef tank I sat there for like an hour watching it waiting for it to settle. After several more i went to bed LOL.

Thanks guys!
I'm really happy with the sandbed. Plus I'm not worried about it's life span since I plan on buying a new tank within the year or so.;)
Of course the sand gets thrown out with the tank.

Well, the bag was labled Playsand from HD.
Was is from you? I know it came from upstate sorta.

The sand came through House Of Fish, a vendor on MR.

Why did you change your sandbed?

Did you notice any changes or flucuations in your parameters at all after the switch?

Did you witness any stress related issues with your corals shortly there after?

Did you wash your sand of all the fine silt before you placed it in your tank? I ask because some like to keep it and some don't. Just curious which you prefer.

I'm sure you already know this, but a Sand Sifting Starfish and Nasarius Snails would love that sand bed you have.

I love the wavey ripple like flow of the sand. Looks extremely natural. Two thumbs up as always my friend.

Pazazz,
I'm not sure if you know, but this tank was barebottom since the move last April. I did have a sandbed in the tank at the other house. When I moved I threw the old one out. I never recycle sandbeds. Too risky with all the nutrients.

The funny part is I lost almost my entire livestock in the move, so it would'nt have made too much of a difference anyway.

Mooch,

Not really. I don't think there was really any significant fluctuation, but I haven't tested my water with my Saliferts. I used the old eyeball test.;)

All (except one) of my corals actually look better now. It's my large Green Palythoas that are slightly curled around the skirts, but they're bouncing back.

I didn't wash it. I have had a lot of sand beds in the past and my experience has shown that even a good rinsing doesn't make much of a difference. So, I don't bother anymore.

I have to get some Mysis Shrimp, they flourish with a sand bed.
Anyone have some?:D

Thanks for the compliments, I am so stoked about having the sandbed.

I even got my Surge maker to work properly in my frag tank.

Who's got it better then me?

Cheers

This may be a stupid question, but did you just dump the new sand in on top of everything?

Nope, good question.

I packed large freezer type ziplock bags full and lowered them down to the bottom of the tank and then released. That only keeps the large sediment from going on your corals and rock.

Be prepared, even rinsed sand makes your tank look like it's filled with milk.;)
