I got the Octopus 150 with a used 90 I setup tonight.

It has been a few hours and I do not even see foam at all. Does it take a while?

I do not see anywhere on the skimmer to adjust.

Hi tdalessa01
A new skimmer need some time to do the skimming. some time is as long as few days to a week. is call the brake in time.
good luck on your new skimmer.

Being used, I would expect a bit of foam head by now, unless some oils or something got in it.

Just to make sure and not be insulting... You are running it in salt water? and is there bubbles in the skimmer body?

Since your new to SW im going to ask a silly question. Do you have the air hose hooked into the venturi and out of the water? On the octopus skimmers, the riser tube can be adjusted to control the water level. Also make sure your sump level is deep enough. The skimmer should be sitting in about 8"+ of water to work.

If you set it up tonight, then there are probably still oils from your skin in the tank, which would kill the foam on it. My foam dies when I stick the tip of 2 fingers in the tank to feed my fish, but it builds back up in a few hours. Just give it time, if it still hasnt made anything in a few days, then start looking for problems.

I forgot to mention mine produced very little the first month. Now it's kicking butt! Give it some time.

also if you just set it up with new sw and live rock. there is no bio load yet to skim. i have the same skimmer on my 80 gallon. it took about a week to really get some good skimate in the cup. but as mentioned, you should have the skimmer body full of water. your water might just be to clean yet to skim anything
