The new Euroreef lines are pretty good, and pretty cheap.

ASM skimmers are good and cheaper than a Euroreef.

The new new new ERs are eheim run ones though... $$$. ASM is okay, but I would go with a reef octopus skimmer FWIW... even ASMskimmer.com switched to octos because they see they are a better value.

One of the larger Recirculating Octopus skimmers would work well.

For my money, my first choice the ATI BM 250/200. I would also look at MCR mr2 Recirc. or a moded NW 200

The big Octupus DNW 400 and the DNW 300 $1100- $800 are good values on the recircs. Ether would be more than enough skimmer. The NW200 @ $200 is a great value but would need to bo modded to handle a tank your size. i personaly dont think their other models are that good of a deal.

The ER RS models work great and are good value. i think much better than ASM & the other Octopus recirc skimmers.

What does affordable mean?

Bubble King affordable,
H&S - Deltec affordable,
ER affordable,
Reef Octo affordable,
ASM affordable, or
Red Sea Berlin affordable

the eheims cost pretty much the same as the gen-x pump it replaced.

better value has nothing to do wtih asmskimmer switching over to reef octopus but more to the fact that asm would not sell skimmers to asmskimmers.com

pm if you want more info on the subject, PM me :)

LOTS of great skimmers out there, just depends on what affordable is!

Don t knock the Red Sea. It was a trailblazer. :p

And what exactly is wrong with the Berlin? It does remove DOCs's right?

Those new Tunze Master DOCs look promising, with similar pumps to the ATIs, but something tells me they wont be as cheap.

I had a berlin hang on about 4 years ago that never collected much and I replaced it with an ACM G3 that collects like crazy.

I would not give that Berlin to my enemy.

Sorry, just my opinion

From that photo it looks like they fixed the small pipe plumbing Issue. It should do very good Now

Now they just have to shrink it a little to fit though the door.  JK

Id actually suggest the 300 over the 400 model for the octo-recircs. The pumps on the 300 are mounted up higher, directly on the skimmer body. I wouldnt doubt if the lower restriction results in the 300 having the same performance as the 400 despite the one less pump.

I am in the process of building my 300 and bought the ocopus dnw-300 recirculating skimmer. I have it hooked up to my current system until the 300 is complete and it works great without mods. Can't wait until I mod it.
