yes i know it's a pretty small tank but that's all the space i have room for i'm afraid :(

anyway my question is, with rule of thumb being 1" of fish per gallon do you think i could have following in a FOWLR 20g tank:

2 x clownfish
1 x green chromis
1 x royal gramma
1 x regal tang
1 x shrimp goby

then the clean up crew would be:

1 x blood shrimp
1 x cleaner shrimp
4 x cerith snails
4 x turbo snails
1 x sand sifting sea star
1 x bristlestar
4 x dwarf blue legged hermit
4 x dwarf red legged hermit
5 x feather duster worms

or would I be completely overstocking the tank?

I am after a peaceful tank so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I could go for a 30g tank but the tall version of the 20g tank but from what I have read for a beginner a tall tank can be quite tricky to maintain due to poor oxygenation and keeping the water well circulated - again any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

I am new at this. But I definately say no tang in a 20g or 40g for that matter. And the rule of 1 inch per gallon does not apply to saltwater.

Not for a cute little regal tank, they need lots of swimming space. the others would be just fine. Make sure that the cleanup crew are suplimented if they need it.

With a 20 gal, I'd cut it back to the clowns and possibly one other fish.

A 20 gal is harder to maintain than a larger tank, but isn't "expert only" area... things like 5 gal and stuff you really need to know what you're doing. You'll be fine with oxygenation from your skimmer and surface flow.

thanks guys for your help. shame though all nemo and no dory, but at the end of the day the fish come first :)

so say we are talking all the fish above EXCEPT the regal tang - would they be fine for a 30g as obviously a couple too many for a 20g?

i'm pretty sure a 70g is a minimum for tangs. regals can grow to 1' ( probably 8 - 9" in your tank )

I have 1percula, 1 saddle back, and 2 damsels in a 29G Total of 4 plus 10 Mexican Turbos and about 10 small blue legged hermits in mine. Everyones happy. O and also a BTA thats home to the saddleback. Thats all.:fish1:

Yea the smallest tang is the yellow tang and hes 70 gal min i think. Also ide recommend smaller clowns like tamoto's but even then they may outgrow your tank. Some clowns can get pretty large.
