I posted a week ago about connecting my (2) 120's and my (2) 125's together, and it became apparent I would need to sump them together. As I dont currently have glass drill bits, I decided to try a rubbermaide sump system. Im aware they like to bow, ect, but felt I would be fine. The stands are so tight against the sump, that any bowing will be counteracted by the stands.

I drilled a 2 1/8" hold in the back of the tub to install a 1 1/2" bulkhead on each sump. They are each connected by a 1 1/2" pvc pipe so if any one system shuts down the sump will not flood.

I will try and get shots of the returns that I plumbed together on each tank. I get great flow off of 4 pumps for the system (all crappy rios). I hope to upgrade all the pumps in the near future, this is all just leftovers put into work for now.

Currently I am running 3 of the 4 tanks with 3 of theese sumps

I will be adding the 4th tank this week when I get my stand in, and will add the 4th sump then. I will also be adding a large free standing skimmer off the entire unit soon. And within a few months I plan to add in a 650 gallon stock tank in the basement to feed it all.

I was considering buying a tidepool sump from marineland for each one, and that would have been almost 600$ in sumps. The rubbermaid system came in around 30$ per tub. Gotta love diy projects.

I use a 18gallon rubbermaid container for my sump on my 37 gallon and love it. Couldnt be happier with it.

45 gallon sterilite tub (wal mart version of rubbermaid) works great... gives me the water volume i desire (well not really but closer to 1,000,000,000 gallons than i would be without it) while having a decent sized display that wont get me thrown out of my residence hall...

I've got the 150 rubbermaid stock ponds on my reef. 69.99 and came with a bulkhead in the bottom already.

Yea I plan to add a 650 gallon one to this system in the near future. I just need to wait to get on to 2007's books for tax reasons. With that, and the small sumps I have to get by with now, I should be pushing about 1100-1200 gallons on this system. This should help a newbie like myself keep a bit better water quality.
