My skimmer (Reef Octopus NW200) on my 180 with 30 sump has very green skimmate. Bioload is fairly high and the skimmate is almost always green, although today it was almost flouresent. Anyone know why?

I'm considering as new skimmer as I'm not sure this one is getting the job done.

I had a bad phyto bloom and it looked like this.

Thats exactly what mine looks like and I have been fighting hair algae for more than a month. So does this mean I'm winning the algae battle or am I just being hopeful.

Ooooh...I hate hair algae. You know Bono a surefire way to kill it is do water changes every week. My skimmate is kinda green not like that though! It is a good sign though that you are winning the battle all my HA has turned brown and falling off the rocks in clumps.

Best of luck

Mike

I've tryed Mollies, Emerald Crabs, a Foxface, Turbo's, Sea Hares, Yellow Tangs, changed all cartridges in my RO/DI and a priest to do an exorcism with no luck. I do water changes one a month but I will give the once a week schedule a try. What % did you do?

I'm also looking into a new skimmer but if I can get it done another way it would obviously save me a bunch of dough.

I recommend once a week water changes. I think it's the reason why my tank has been real healthy the past two years. My tank hardly misses a weekly water change.

Bono,

Have you tried some GFO (granular ferric oxide) ie Phosban? I have been using it for 2 months now and it is almost all gone, Of course the 200 Blueleg hermit Crabs, 100 Cerith snails, 100 Astrea snals and 12 Emerald crabs didnt hurt.

If you need some GFO or inverts shoot me a PM.
