I agree, they look like hydroids.

Is there anything that will eat them?

kalk paste did nothing for me with hydroids. I put epoxy putty over the top of them and they grew out from under it. The best method is a pair of tweezers.

Still looking for possible solutions, Anyone know what eats these things?

Nothing that I know of eats them, except the occasional wrasse. I've always heard that a good way to get rid of them is to spread a layer of kalk paste over the colony. Depending on how big it is you maybe have to do this in shifts, because kalk can raise your pH. I've also heard, but never tried, blasting them with current to get rid of them. They like growing in low flow areas.

This is the method I used. Epoxy the hard to reach ones and use needlenose pliers to pull the suckers out manually. Its a PITA but it works.
