Hey guys I'm going to get a 37gallon fish tank today or tomarrow and I was just wondering. Would 1 powerhead be good enough? or should I get 2? Also for filter wise, I was looking at doing a sump or just canister, what would be better in filter and quietness?

It depends on what type of tank you are setting up (FO,FOWLR,REEF).

IMO I had a cannister filter and hated it because of alot of maintenance(cleaning) and high nitrates because of accumulation of foods and other things in there.
One powerhead would be fine if you get a pretty good size one for flow at least 370gph rating or two and have at least the same divided by two and this does not include the flow for protein skimmers or other devices

GlobalPimp ( which thanks you help me out alot, hopefully you can with this tank ) And supertech3 1 powerhead would be fine if it is a 370 or should I just get to little ones that add up to 370?...And I have a 40 what clean up crews do you guys think are good?

I would use a sump and no canister filters. I would also get two PH's so the water flo will be more multi directional. Clean up crew - hermits, snails, cleaner shrimp....

you can get them at most LFS's but building yourself will be a little cheaper.

Also does anyone know how to build like a cave or something out of the live rock for my newer tank? I would like to have a cave and little opens so they can swim through

GlobalPimp do you know how to build one yourself? Cause I may want to do that but I don't know how to do it exactly.

i use cannister filter but it is filled with seachems bio matrix,( very pourous rocks) for bio filter nitrate are down just fine last time i cleaned it out wasn't really dirty but full of copepods, amphipods, and water went nuts from cleaning it out lost bio filtration from disturbing it, but inside each compartment there were different worms, pods, bristle worms i guess all the live stuff took care of any mess build up in there

If you search the DIY forum you will find instructions to build/design a sump. I use the bigger filter sock. Remember to clean it at least once a week - look up the old post where I explained all the steps to you.

What does the tank have to be made of in order to be able to drill into it?
