Hey, I have a 3.5-4inch SM montipora colony who is browning up slightly...

tank is 100gallons long, oceanic, I believe 16inches deap... it is on the bottom, all egg crate...

on the far right side

Tank is lit by two 400watt MH 20,000K blueline on a Blueline Eballast. and two VHO 160watt actinic/whites.

photoperiod is approx. 8-9 hours.

tidepool 2 sump with a Coralife 125gallon model super skimmer, working nicely.

current is provided by one Seio (660/620/600? whichever) a Maxijet 1200 and a Cap Pump 1,200gph modified... I took it, added PVC pipe to it and an elbo at the top to make it flow midways in the tank

Tank is an SPS frag/small colony system... all acros are doing well all other corals are doing well.. just the monti's polyps are a bit brown instead of its normal orange/red...

more light? more flow?

how high up do you have the sm monti? Mine likes intense lite, I put it on the sand bed, when i got it, it was browned up. Then after a week, I raised the frag up to about 8-10 inches from the surface of the water, under 250watt 20K XM's. Its blue and red now. So, depending on your 400 watters, you may have to adjust the height of yours.

Was this a wild colony or a frag that you got from a collector, that has grown into a colony. Almost all wild colonies that come in recently looking like the superman will brown out.

Mine is about 10 inches from the surface of the water directly under a 400W radium and it looks pretty nice.

that is almost a negligible amount of flow for a 100 gallon

and if it wasn't the real superman it might never color up.

Mine is about 6 inches from the surface with 400w 14k ushio with high flow 75x turnover.

Its doing good. And is starting to show growth. Have had if for a month.

mine is about 8 inches from my 250w MH 14k hammy and looks great!

they do love strong flow.

looking at your flow, id say your def. on the low low end. Flow is number 1 or 2 when it comes to the happiness of SPS. IMO.
